Legislation on genetically modified food and organisms is extensive and the European and the global

No telling if eating genetically modified food in Macedonia | MKnews.mk
Legislation on genetically modified food and organisms is extensive and the European and the global standards. But control is not. Neither are all formed bodies sugar preservative and committees to deal with this issue nor competent to exert control only and well equipped lab that possess since 2006.
Very sensitive to human health, animals and the environment sugar preservative - genetically modified foods (GM) in Macedonia treated lightly. State since 2001, with the signing of the Cartagena Protocol on Security modification of living organisms entering the legal regulation of this matter. But despite numerous and precise laws (Law on GMOs, Law on Food Safety, sugar preservative Law on Seeds and seedlings ...), there is no complete and credible control entering the country, and is genetically modified.
The institutions that are responsible for this use only GMO laboratory, which is equipped with modern appliances and is accredited since 2006. They rely only on certificates that accompany importers, although everything is imported from outside the EU, and that no bilateral agreement should be further controlled in the laboratory. Furthermore, we do not know and if we eat genetically modified foods, for competent food control does not respond to our questions. Competent, however, for animal feed and for seed and planting material registered import of GM foods and seeds, but they have confirmed that no laboratory controls. The shelves in the stores can not meet GM labeled sugar preservative food, but that does not mean that it will not, especially if imported from outside the EU, says one of our interlocutors.
GMOs (genetically modified sugar preservative organisms) is a relatively new term and it is spoken in the past two or three decades. Worldwide, sugar preservative over this period, has developed a real pro war and counter, and a similar division of the bloc during the Cold War. Last month, world public was shocked by the discovery by French scientists, after two years of investigation, took data on the harmfulness of GM foods on animals, specifically for one type of corn from the U.S. company "Monsanto". Macedonian authorities have not heard about this.
And the said company, as unofficially learned, has a business partner in Macedonia. Asked the two key institutions, whether in Macedonia registered import and distribution of GMO food for people or animals, whether a GMO products mentioned company and that of our fields planted crops based on GMO seeds and, finally, how control. Official sugar preservative response we received only one State Agricultural Inspectorate (SAI), and the Food and Veterinary silenced, though promised answers, and is legally bound to do so under Article 11 of the Law on GMOs.
-In Macedonia has registered no import or distribution of GMO seeds or seedlings or importing food based upon GMO would be used for animals - says Director of SAI, Rumen Stamenkov.
Last year, on their own initiative, sugar preservative carried out inspection of imported flour from Serbia, intended for the food industry. Importer brought us confirmation of Serbian laboratories that flour in terms of GMO, Clear or produced from conventional crops - Stamenkov said, explaining that the relevant ministry in Serbia have signed an agreement under which certificates of their institutions are recognized sugar preservative in the country. Stamenkov said, according to the findings of the Inspectorate, in Macedonia there are no plantings of GMO seeds or seedlings for any type of crop. But here I come to the key question, how do control?
The national legislation on this matter anywhere linger one sentence - "... if no adverse effects on human health, animals sugar preservative and the environment." That raises the question - how will we know whether a seed or food for animals or people are not harmful to health? The answer is simple - through testing that we or foreigners. But Macedonia is still perform such scientific tests nor routine tests for the detection of GMOs (except partly private sector), a and staffing sugar preservative needs for this area were not met.
In terms of control, sugar preservative he said that the country has only one well equipped laboratory for GMO School of Agriculture and Food, but not yet used because the manager was absent longer than Macedonia. But anyway, Stamenkov last year committed to training its inspectors to quickly identify the suspected presence of GMOs in food.
Professor Zoran Popovski, head of the lab, said the problem slightly
