Food waste and increasing poverty are directly related, says World Bank expert in the area of poverty, José Cuesta. The more people throw away food, foods are more expensive, forcing families to spend more on food and less on other activities such as education and welfare.
"There's not much level of consciousness, even in the richest countries. There is awareness to produce more food but not to improve the trend of food losses in the region, especially in education and awareness, "said Cuesta.
